Fabricated Moments
This work explores the dichotomy of the real and the synthetic through symbolism from nature. There is an inner structure, often seen in grid form. This is representative of stability that can refer to home, security, or sanity. Combined with this rigid order are organic leaf forms. The leaves signify a fabricated, unrealistic, or unnatural experience. Each individual leaf represents one memory, and the use of multiples refers to the system of recalling these experiences. Plastic as a material is significant in that this piece refers to the plasticity, irregularity, and unreliability of memory. Memories are distorted fabrications or experiences. Some memories are entirely false, and can change each time they are recalled. This work is meant to be both comforting and disquieting, nostalgic and satisfying, between the real and superficial.
